I have often been asked how I feel about criticism of my work, let me sum it up this way.
I feel that when criticism, of the purely Negative kind, is being leveled at my work. It is like listening to some 'Art Snob' blathering on about a piece of 'abstract art', believing that somehow they are elevating themselves in seeing that which does not exist to the lowly eye of the common Man. As such, criticism from pretentious pricks such as those, is treated by me with the contempt it deserves. I will always seek guidance from my peers on ways to improve my art, but critiques from those who seek only to "take down" the work of an artist, any artist, are in my opinion unworthy. ![]() On location
My Latest News;
I am trying to write a book...... was going to write my Autobiography, which had a working Title.. Confessions of a Man Whore, however a dear friend and Editor told that because of its tell all content ... I would probably end up being sued or at worst I would never find a Publisher . So I decided instead to write a Sci Fi short story. Well Bugga me drunk if that hasn't turned from being a Short Story into something resembling War and Peace. It started out with Two main Characters and now has Four, it has Doctors, Nurses (God, how I love Nurses lol) Dalmatians and 25 [email protected]#king Storm Troopers!! A work in progress, one that may never be finished. I still have no idea where the 25 [email protected]#king Storm Troopers came from, but they all of a sudden, without any explanation appeared on the Manuscript. I am sure I didn't write them into the story, they just appeared overnight lol. Well that is my story and I am sticking to it. |
Artist ProfileI seek in the simplicity of Photographic and Written expression to share my images and words with other Creatives and the General Public.
I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am sometimes out of control and at times very hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." My work covers a wide variety of subjects including mixed media and photography. I am a non conformist, an individualist and most certainly by no means a 'crowd pleaser'. New photographs are added to my various Portfolios several times a week. My photography is Self Promoted, primarily by word of mouth from clients, friends and family. I treat all, as I would like to be treated myself, I believe in respecting my peers and being respectful means that my dealings with others will always be positive, polite and encouraging. I respect and cherish the Comments and Feedback that my peers make on my work as I value them much more than mere worldly fame. I have had a long and enduring love affair with Photography since my early teens. Before I became a Professional Photographer I spent my formative years learning my craft under the guidance of a retired Professional, whilst at the same time developing my sales skills looking after the Amateur and Professional Market in Retail sales arena. It was also during that period that I spent many long days and nights in a Darkroom honing my skills and developing my expertise in another area of photography, developing and printing both my colour and Black and White work. I gave away serious photography for a number of years returning to the ranks of the Amateur Photographers. It has only been of fairly recent time that I have been inspired to return to my craft and now I have set out to make my mark as a Freelance photographer. I am very selective in who I will do work for, preferring mostly to stay with my regulars. After all these days it is All about me, this is my life, my journey! |

- PHOTOGRAPHY
A: Yes, I have a number of galleries, which are constantly being refreshed. They are on a number of my websites, the main two being; http://www.stuartmediaservices.com and http://www.blair-stuart.artistwebsites.com
Q: For how long have you done photography? How did you begin?
A: On and off for over 40 years, started with Hanimex way back in the 70's
Q: What has been your education as a photographer?
A: Trained with a Professional photographer... from there it has all been self taught
Q: What is your favourite type of photography?
A: Landscape and special effects
Q: What do you try to express through your photography?
A: My individual style.
Q: How do you choose your subjects?
Experience and looking for the unique and unusual aspects of the subject matter.
Q: Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
A: In general I prefer to go with the flow, unless it requires a more staged setup.
Q: Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sigma, Olympus, Sony, Pentax...which do you place your bets on and why?
A: Have used Canon in the past, now though my preference is for Pentax. Like the product and it suits my current requirements.
Q: Describe your current equipment: cameras, lenses, computers, accessories...
A: I use both a Pentax K20D and a Pentax KM series Digital SLR's with 50mm as well as 70 to 210 zoom, 28 mm wide angle and a macro along with a OLYMPUS 35mm. Tripods, studio flash and slave units, Samsung Laptop, iPad and various filters
Q: What software and plug-ins do you use to retouch and manage your photos?
A: Cyberlink PowerDirector 8, Cyberlink PhotoDirector 2014, Cyberlink Photo Director 4 Ultra, Photoscape, Gimp2, Photo Pos Pro. Far too many apps on the iPad to list them all but the primary ones are Photgene, Photopad, Sketchme, Diptic, ColourSplash, Colour Effects, Filterstorm and Juxtaposer
Q: What measures do you take to protect your work against Internet piracy?
A: Batchphoto Watermark Editor
Q: Are technology and digital retouching reducing the gap between professionals and amateurs?
A: Yes, although there will always be a gap between the amateur and the professional, just as there always has been. Of course even amongst the professionals there are exists a substantial gap between those capable of producing a better than average (amateur standard) shot and those that have the ability to see deeper into the very essence of the subject they are photographing. Certainly the new editing and retouching suites available make it easier for both the amateur and the professional to produce better than average images. That fact notwithstanding, the reality is that in order to produce a top flight final image the base image has to be of a standard well above what would be acceptable as a 'good' shot. In my opinion it is this ability to produce, on a continual basis, such images that differentiates the true 'creative' photographer from both the average professional and the amateur. Some have this edge the majority do not. Those men and women that do are the true creative photographic 'artists', upon whom technology will never impact to any great extent. Primarily because they have the creative edge (flair) that enables them to produce outstanding images regardless of the equipment / editing suites that they use. To coin an old phrase, just as you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you cannot make a brilliant (great) image out of an ordinary base standard photograph, no matter what editing program you use.
Q: With which other photographers do you normally team up with or do sessions with?
A: As a Freelance operator I work alone, which suits me.
Q: Do you consider yourself more technical or more artistic?
A: Combination of both
Q: What have you learned about the art of framing and composition?
A: You either have it or you don't
Q: How does one develop the instinct of knowing when to press the shutter release button?
A: Comes to a degree from experience
Q: When should one use film, and when should one use digital?
A: I shoot with both when on location.
Q: Does photography have the recognition that it should have in contemporary art museums?
A: No it does not, there is still a level of elitism within the Art Galleries and Art Museums.
