PHOTOGRAPHIC ART

Artist Statement
I have a passion for colour, texture and patterns. This can be as simple as the natural sand sculptures on the beach or as complex as using a number of programs on an image to create a bold statement. I love the detail in an object be it moss on a rock or pattern of a lizard's skin. Rusty things attract me. I get hung up on ropes. Symmetry spins me out. Form and colour are what I delight in.
One Perfect Weekend - 30 days 30 Challenges
Tractable Light Series MotoGP 1
I love creating abstract images. i love bright colours These images were developed from shots of a MotoGP bike using four iPad apps and six processes.
Blue and White Series
Interesting images can be created from the most random objects.
Shell Series
I love my programs. The first image was run through three applications and four processes to create these wonderful symmetries,
Droplets Series
The images are based on photographs of water droplets on leaves. Using a process of digital enhancement and symmetry colourful and unique images have been created.
Roses Series
Again a process of digital enhancement has resulted in unique treatments of the original photographs.
Stuart Media interview with Loretta Leslie
Q. Loretta, do you have an on line gallery?
A. Yes, I have just launched lorleslifestyles. It is early days yet but hopefully it will have more content in the coming weeks. it is at www.lorleslifestyles.com ...plus of course I have my page on Stuart media Services lol
Q. For how long have been doing photography? How did you start?
A. I have been involved in photography for several years. I am a visual thinker and enjoy the perspective of the camera lens. Moments in time captured. My favourite type of photography is detail. I like the little aspects which comprise a scene. The hidden gems.
Q. What do you try to express through your photography?
A. Creative inspiration. When looking at a scene I like to find an angle which gives character to it.
I mostly fail but it is fun trying lol.
Q. How do I choose your subjects?
A. Opportunity based. By that I mean I will be somewhere and see something I wish to photograph. Then I look for the detail.
Q. Do you normally photograph with a purpose in mind or just go with the flow?
A. A little of both. As I said I photograph what I see but at the same time I am looking for the detail.
Q. What is your choice of Camera out of the Main ones on the Market, ie; Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Canon, Samsung, Sony etc?
A. I'm a Pentax person. Although I do have a little Sony fixed lens which I still love.
Q. Describe your current photographic equipment.
A. Currently I have a Pentax K20D which I enjoy for its flexibility on automatic setting. But the little bugga is playing up so I am using a K7. My go to lens is a sigma 18-125 lens. It gives me enough range to not have to change lenses too frequently. I have a number of other lens which I use in specific situations but if I am just shooting I love my 18-125.
Q. What Programmes and plug-ins do you mainly use?
A. I work on both my laptop and iPad. I have a number of programs for creating digital art,and love playing with the images to see what I can create. My primary programs are PhotoDirector 4,
Photogene, Photowizard, Artista Oil, and Photo Viva.
Q. What measures do I take to protect my work against digital piracy?
A. I use copyright on images I post to the Internet. When I remember i downsize the image to a smaller file.
Q. Is the gap between the Amateur and the professional photographer reducing?
A. Do you mean hobbyists? Regardless of how good your equipment is, how many program's you have, unless you have an eye for the shot it will be average. This applies to both professional and amateurs.
Q. Who do you team up with?
A. I go out on photo shoots with Blair. We enjoy sharing the experience. However, it does mean that we have much material in common so when we are in the same forums it is difficult to share work that is different lol.
Q. Are you more Artistic or technical in your approach to Photography?
A. More shoot and see what happens. You do need to know some of the technical stuff but I am more artistic in approach. Mind you I get very disappointed when a shot I was looking forward to is botched because I got the technicalities wrong.
Q. What is your view on the art of framing and composition?
A. I have learnt that good editing takes an ordinary shot and improves it lol. I endeavour to get the framing or composition right in the field and usually take several shot of the one image.
Q. Your opinion on the so called Photographers "instinct"
A. Practice. Even if you are born with a good eye for a shot practice still improves the end result.
Q. When should one use film?
A. I think for black and whit photography. Although you can set the camera to b&w or post process it the effect is not the same.
Q. Is photography accorded the recognition it deserves as an art form?
A. I don't think photography has ever had the same recognition as other art forms because it is perceived that there is a lower creative in put in terms of time and effort. In this digital because it is so accessible to everyone I think the value of good photography has been diminished.
