Artistic Talent IS Inherited...
I started drawing at an early age and almost ALWAYS had my crayons nearby.
As I continued through grade school and eventually
high school I was very shy and kept to myself mostly. I prefered to be at home with my sketchpad and pencils instead of hanging out with the 'in-crowd'. I gradually lost the awkward shyness in my late teens and eventually entered the military at 21 back in 1981.
Four years later I found myself back home and working a 9 to 5 but something was missing... It didn't take long to figure out that what I was missing was 'creating art' Within a couple years I found myself painting and drawing again. I started painting on clothing and entered a few 'craft shows' that were all the rage back in the late 80's and early 90's (wow now I sound OLD. LOL).
By 1993 I had been married and divorced and I needed a change.
I took a job, out of state, to do airbrushing full time at a T-Shirt shop in a Chicago Suburban Mall (talk about jumping in head first). after 3 successful years there I opened my own art/graphics shop. There I offered anything painted and ended up doing everything from sign painting (yes we used to PAINT them not cut vinyl for them LOL) and eventually custom motorcycle painting. Over the years I have painted award winning motorcycles, monster trucks that have been featured on TV, and a couple of custom paintings for Wynona Judd and Paula
Abdul. To this day I am a self-taught artist and apparently I come from a long line of artistic people on my mother's side. The closest I have come to schooling or training is a few art workshops over the years. Of course I also have taught art workshops over the years too. After years of doing a lot of 'commissioned' work
I currently I am exploring a new direction in my artwork and being more creative in that I am trying new techniques and mediums. I am really pushing the boundaries on creativity and you will see these works on here under my ' mixed media' gallery. I still do custom work including pet and people portraits but prefer to design custom mixed media pieces specifically made to accent your home or office decor. Please feel free to contact me for ideas and quotes.
I can also be found on a variety of websites by simply typing: paintingsbydarren
into google. Thanks for taking a look at my artwork and enjoy your day.

Too Late for Change
Description:_
For this piece I decided to paint how I feel as an artist about our current climate situation and the reasons that I believe for the situation we are facing. I am a fan of Salvadore Dali's surrealism so he was my main inspiration for this piece.
I created this piece using hand painting and airbrushing combined with collage techniques. I felt by using these techniques I could achieve a realistic and surrealistic look to the finished piece which is so apparent in Dali's work. On a 24 by 20 by 1.5 inch gallery wrapped canvas I started with an airbrushed background using acrylic paints and acrylic inks. Next came the collage elements applied with rubber cement. I used magazine cutouts for the city scene, sinking statue, and mountains and lower clouds. Then I attached some small metal gear like objects to add to the "industry like" feel I wanted in that portion of the piece. Finally I painted and airbrushed the upper clouds with the eyes in them, the ocean and beach scene with palm trees, the storm in the far background, and the chains and steel cables attached to the smoke stacks.
The idea or story I want the viewer to feel is our struggle between the use of fossil fuels which are non-renewable, and our slow attempt to develop alternatives. The focal point that pulls you in are the smoke stacks near the top left. One in brick and 3 in steel. The black and gray billowing smoke coming from the stacks represent the emissions we pollute our atmosphere with burning fossil fuels like coal and gas. The stacks are eroding at the bottom but are also chained to different points in the city scene below. This is meant to show how we seem to be "chained" to this form of fuel for power ever since the industrial age. Near the city scene is a pile of money and jewels. This I feel is representative of the corporate greed which I believe is the main reason we are still using these antiquated types of fuel for power. The stacks and gears are also configured to represent a hand up as if to say "HALT" as I believe we must stop continuing to rely on this form of fuel because it is slowly destroying our planet. The smoke carries the eye across the top of the canvas to the beautiful partly sunny day above a tropical landscape. This portion of the canvas is intended to remind the viewer of the beauty of mother nature and our planet as it once was and still can be. The water changes from beautiful tropical turquoise on the right to a muddy almost blood red stained liquid as it gets closer to civilization or the city scene. the reddish color also strongly divides the the artwork in this area just as there seem to be strong opinions as to whether or not we are affecting our planet as badly as the scientific community says we are. The sinking carved statue is representative of the ancient earth that is eroding and disappearing from our own neglect and refusal to change. You can faintly see a pair of eyes faded into the clouds above the palm trees as if mother nature herself is crying at the site of what we as humans are doing to her beautiful creation. near the center of the canvas you see what appears to be a huge storm brewing way off in the distance. Rolling dark clouds and lightning as if to serve as a warning that the worst is yet to come if we don't change. On the right side also the glowing sun and blowing palm trees with wind blown waves lapping onto shore could be representative of other options we should be pursuing like Solar and Wind energy which is much better and kinder to our environment.
I created this piece because I am noticing a change in our climate. Our winter this year was longer than normal and it only now is starting to feel like spring (and it is almost summer). I believe that these climate changes are a direct result to our over use of fossil fuels which increases the amount of carbon emissions in our atmosphere, thus changing our weather. Scientific proof of this has been revealed yet we continue to ignore it. I believe that the people who are the strongest disbelievers are also the ones who are profiting the most from the continued use of fossil fuels. I hope this creation helps people to connect emotionally with this problem and seriously take a look around at what is happening to our planet. If enough people do this maybe we can do something before it is too late. The intention is to make the viewer question their own thoughts and beliefs on this important subject. This is why I decided to title this piece:

Visual Atist Jim Fierro has this to say about Darren
I met Darren Robinson on my journey of spreading fantastic artwork throughout the world. I stumbled upon his terrific airbrush paintings and though to myself now here is a guy with extreme talent. His gallery was full of amazing portrait paintings, wildlife paintings, abstract art and more recently these magnificent puzzle type paintings that consist of a few different size canvasses that you can re-arrange into different wall art designs. There is nothing but pure genius in this man's work.
More recently I got to know him on a personal level too. We talk through text messaging or call each other on the phone. He is a straight up person with a down to earth attitude. He has a unique sense of humor as well as a great heart. I learned that he too is a fellow Veteran serving in the Marine Corps thus explains the sense of humor. He love his fellow veterans and will bend over backwards to help those who need it. I say this because I told him that i would be taking a break from promoting artwork because my computer crashed. Without hesitation or even telling me anything about it, he starts a campaign to try and raise money for me to buy a new computer. I have a tremendous amount of respect not only for Darren as a person but as one of the best artists I have ever seen. Pure raw talent!!

Windsurfer Triptych
Windsurfer Triptych is another in the "Painted Garanimal" series from the imagination of PaintingsByDarren. The bold graphic lines of this brightly colored abstract definitely makes a statement. This newest addition to the series is also interchangeable in it's concept allowing the viewer to display them in different combinations. The pieces are available on here individually to allow you to arrange the triptych as you see fit. This would make a great gift for any art enthusiast or just to make a bold color splash in your home or office decor.
Asian Bloom Triptych is part of the "Painted Garanimals" series from PaintingsByDarren. This series is comprised of multiple painting sets that can be rearranged or separate to display as "stand alone" pieces and sets. The oriental style of this contemporary piece would go well in any modern home or office decor. It lends itself perfectly to the current design and decorating trends and would make a great housewarming gift. Why not add a splash of contemporary color to your home. Here is the complete triptych.
The beauty and miracle of the human eye. What some refer to as the "window to the soul". Have you ever looked deeply into the eyes of someone, maybe a loved one, and felt yourself connect with their soul? Have you ever seen that "twinkle" and KNEW what the person was thinking? Or that they loved you unconditionally? The eyes truly ARE the window to the soul. They can give away your every thought and emotion. Some eyes even change color depending on the persons mood. This is what inspired this original painting with its bold and striking details. If you look close enough you can feel her looking back at you. Can you imagine what she is thinking. Is she happy? surprised?
This image has been featured on SO many FAA groups that I lost count. I believe the count is up to 7 now. Thanks for ALL the kudos on this piece as it IS one of my favorites.
Lucille is the name B.B. King gave to his guitar. The story goes something like this: In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit. This was a fairly common practice at that time. During the performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, which triggered an evacuation. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside the burning building. He entered the blaze to retrieve his beloved $30 Gibson guitar. Two people died in the fire. The next day, King learned that the two men were fighting over a woman named Lucille. King named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every guitar he has owned since that near-fatal experience, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women. Blues music is one of my favorites types of music to listen to. This painting is actually the first in a new series I'm doing of "music icons" The rich colors lend themselves nicely to any type of decor and would look especially good in your home bar or entertainment room. *********
